Welcome to Boyd J. Michael, III Technical High School (also known as "Tech High") – where you will have the opportunity to build your future!

Here, you will find rich, cutting-edge Career Technology Education (CTE) programs and academic courses that meet the needs of all of our learners. They include on-grade, Honors and Advanced Placement classes and a variety of electives that allow for a rich educational experience.

ACADEMIC PREREQUISITES

Students planning to attend Tech High should complete, be enrolled in, or have a plan to complete the following courses:

  • Foundations of Technology
  • Physical Education
  • Health
  • Fine Art
  • Two years of World Language (required for UMD completers or students planning to attend a four-year university)
  • All grade-appropriate academic courses


ENROLLMENT TIMELINE
  • 8th Grade: Visit and tour Tech High with your class during a field trip
  • 9th Grade: Attend an open house with your parents to learn more about the school
  • 10th Grade: Sign up for a “shadow visit” before applying

NOTE: Students interested in Cosmetology must apply during their freshman year and attend Tech High for grades 10-12.
This is the only three-year program, and students who do not apply as freshmen will not be eligible to enroll. 



APPLICATION PROCESS
  • Shadow Day Visit: Sign up and attend a shadow visit
  • Online Application: Apply online after completing your shadow visit (an application link is provided during your visit)
  • Evaluation by Committee: Applications are assessed using an 18-point rubric based on:
    • Shadow Visit Engagement
    • Prerequisites
    • Grades
    • Attendance
    • Behavior
    • Up to 2 extra credit points for a staff recommendation
  • Acceptance Notification: Applicants will be notified of their acceptance via letter, email or school visit
